EDIT - A lot of people seem to be missing the meat of my post (not that I blame them, it is probably far too long). I am NOT asking how to complete my dailys or QQ'ing that I can't do it because I only have prot and holy gear. The whole point of this is my suggestion to add in 3 new quest types which can be found in the lower half of my post. I feel the instead of healers and tanks trying to dps in order to solo, there should be content added to utilize our spec and skills. That is all.
Hello, I am a prot and sometimes holy paladin, and I have gear for both specs. I feel that I am being severely penalized by my choice of spec, especially when trying to complete daily quests. My gear level is not an issue, with my gear mostly being T5/Kara/Badges/ZA, yet I struggle tremendously to complete the daily quests with any kind of speed. The issue with this is any rogue or mage or any dps class/spec with any gear, greens or epics, can literally kill the new ultrasoft sunwell isle mobs in under 10, sometimes 5 seconds.
I however, struggle to kill them in under 30 if I am to maintain any kind of mana effeciency. With my best spell damage gear on I have around 600 spell damage, yet stilly my avenger's/holy shock barely scratches these mobs. In addition, many of these new mobs drain over 1k mana every 15 or so seconds, which in my protection gear is around 20% of my mana. Now I realize that thus far I have been QQ'ing and I admit that I might not be soloing to the absolute maximum that my character can put out, but I know I'm not far from it.
For those that respond to me by saying they made the mobs ultra squishy for me, I will say that it is appreciated. However it has really only further illuminated the discrepancy between dps classes and tanking/healing ones for solo content. With the old dailys at least groups would form up because the mobs could take a little time to solo. Now every dps class just goes and solo's it because it takes them about 5 minutes to do all the killing they need to do in an area. They have nothing to gain by having me tag along.
But enough of my whining, it's time for me to offer my solution. I propose that each, or at least some dailys, offer a tanking, healing, and dps version of the quest. The tanking quests could require you to tank one or multiple mobs while an NPC group with healers and dps kills the mobs. The healing daily could be similar but with the player healing a tanking npc. The dps quests could replace the current kill quests with the same npc oriented quest.
Blizzard clearly has some mechanism to check for gear since they do for battlegrounds, so the quests could scale accordingly. As a prot paladin, a challenging aspect for me would be to use mana conservation while still holding threat, thus forcing me to find the most effecient threat per second I can maintain. To do this I would have to tank a mob with heavy hp's and relatively low damage. The mob could also have a very high chance to crush, thus forcing me to keep holy shield active the whole time. I don't know the idiosynchrisies of the other tank classes, but I'm sure the developers could think of similar challenges for each class.
The healing quest could in a similar way test you. The enemy mob or your tanking companion could scale with gear and offer unique challenges. It could even change with classes, ie shamans heal more npcs while paladins heal a more main tank type npc. It would force you to cleanse/decurse yet still handle heavy damage on multiple party members. Maybe to even emulate a raid setting you could have npc healers competing with you and forcing you to cancel un needed heals. The possibilities are endless.
The dps quests would be more of the same, making you learn to play your class. I would love to see them make the tanking npc pump out a relatively low amount of threat, thus forcing players to dance around the gain threat line. Perhaps the enemy mob could come equiped with a knockback, cleave, aoe, and all sorts of goodies to keep you on your toes and your reactions high. The mob would naturally contain an enrage timer to make sure you keep your dps up. Once again this timer would scale with gear, as would the tank's threat.
Another option could be levels of difficulty. I think considering the fact that blizz could control all the factors besides the actualy single player, they could perfectly tune it for whatever difficulty they would like. Perhaps you could have very easy quests that reward you with less gold and more difficult ones that would try to emulate, say, an Illidan fight. These would reward you accordingly. That way players who want to mindlessly click buttons for gold could, while others (like me) who might have less time to devote to dailys could use their skill to compensate for their lack of time. Just a thought.
I can't take full credit for this idea, I read it somewhere on these forums. I just fleshed it out a little and posted it here. Any input would be helpful.
TLDR version: Add dailys designed for healers and tanks, not just dps classes.
